About Me
Hi! My name is Steff, and I used to be a Texas ex-pat. In fact, most of my life has been spent in the Texas diaspora as I moved with my family or on my own to various locales in Kansas and Maine, and then on to Boston, London, D.C. and even Omaha. Nowadays, I live in Austin, Texas.
Some people might question the sanity of moving so often, but it has given me the opportunity to learn new things, meet new people and try things I might never have known about otherwise.
Regardless of where I’ve lived though, there has been at least one constant fact: The kitchen has been the heart of my homes. Some of those homes were a wee might bit dysfunctional and others were downright tiny, but the kitchen was still my go-to spot for comfort, conversation, cookies, and enjoyment.
Well, to be honest, the kitchen is usually a source of enjoyment. Occasionally it’s also the source of some rather extreme irritation, frustration, nasty bowls of oatmeal and some stunningly painful injuries and burns.
Knowing that, I started “The Kitchen Trials” where I chronicle my recipe successes, recipe failures, recipe goofs and other stories about my relationship with food and cooking.
So that my family and friends don’t worry too much, please know that I have a fire extinguisher and a well-stocked collection of first aid supplies.

Note: This page was updated on Nov. 27, 2011, to reflect my move to Austin, Texas. Mmm… YAY!!!!!
